I’ll be honest – what first grabbed my attention with this book was the cover art. I’m already a big Jeneva Rose fan (previous reviews here), but the moment I saw this cover I literally said to myself, Ohhhh, this looks interesting. Then I flipped it over, read the description, and immediately knew it was coming home with me.
It’s pitched as “Real Housewives meets murder,” and honestly? That’s spot‑on. For context, I’m a massive Real Housewives fan and have been for years. Atlanta? Iconic. Early New Jersey? Legendary. Bravo and Peacock are basically the soundtrack of my home. So a thriller that blends Housewives‑level drama with a murder mystery? That’s my sweet spot.
One of Us Is Dead follows a group of Buckhead women – Jenny, Olivia, Crystal, Shannon, and Karen – and the lengths they’ll go to in order to protect their status, their secrets, and their perfectly curated lives. Much of the story centers around Jenny’s salon, Glow, where the women gather for their monthly memberships: hair, nails, spray tans, the works. But their lives outside the salon are just as tangled, and as tensions rise, lies unravel, and alliances shift, everything eventually spirals into chaos…and death.
I spent most of the book convinced I had the mystery figured out, only to be completely blindsided by the final twist. And the best part? Once I thought about it, I realized the answer had been sitting in plain sight from the very beginning.
If you’re craving a thriller with the delicious feel of watching a Real Housewives episode (drama, cattiness, backstabbing, secrets, and that signature “wait, WHAT just happened” energy), this one delivers. It’s fast, fun, messy in the best way, and absolutely worth the read.
My Final Pour:
4.5/5 lattes
Perfect for: Bravo lovers, domestic thriller fans, readers who enjoy secrets + status games
Overall vibe: Fast‑paced, dramatic, gossipy, Housewives‑level chaos with a twist that actually lands
